ORCHESTRAS & ENSEMBLES
PUBLISHED JULY 2019
Bookings for Cambridgeshire Music’s ensembles for the 2019/20 academic year are now open. Whatever your instrument or level, there are plenty of opportunities to play amazing music, improve your skills, and make new friends.
The Area Music Centres, in Cambridge and Ely, allow intermediate musicians to develop their ensemble skills both in an orchestra and smaller groups. Each term, the centres work on themed repertoire, building towards an end of term performance. For 2019/20 the themes are:
Cambridge: ‘Curtain Up’ / ‘Sounds of Science’ / ‘Ticket To Ride’
Ely: ‘Carnival of The Animals’ / Songs and Dances from the British Isles / ‘Fun In The Summer’
Cambridgeshire Music’s contemporary music centres will be continuing to rock their socks off at various venues across the county, courtesy of the School of Rock and Pop, which helps young musicians to form bands, write their own material and hone their sound.
And the County Orchestras offer a high-level ensemble experience with challenging and engaging repertoire, together with opportunities to perform in professional venues, including Cambridge Corn Exchange, West Road Concert Hall and Ely Cathedral.
Cambridgeshire County Youth Orchestra will again host a magical Christmas concert with an intergalactic feel in ‘Christmas to the Stars’; Cambridgeshire Youth Wind Orchestra will be celebrating ‘England 1000’ at Chatteris Church, and the County Chamber Ensembles will be meeting for two intensive weekend sessions across the year, leading to a performance at the County Orchestra Summer Concerts.
