New courses available with Cambridge Youth Jazz Orchestra

If you enjoy playing jazz – or would like to try it – three superb opportunities for young musicians to learn new skills and play live at major public events have been announced for this coming summer by the Cambridge Youth Jazz Orchestra:

- The Orchestra’s weekend course on 22 and 23 June will explore the connections between jazz and improvised ensemble music, and swing and groove music. It is being led by experienced jazz musicians and will climax with a live performance on Jesus Green in Cambridge.

- The CYJO Festival weekender, from 17 to 18 August, offers an amazing opportunity for young musicians to play live at a new family festival called ‘We Out Here’, which is taking place at Abbots Ripton near Huntingdon. Participating students will also receive free tickets to the festival!

- The Cambridgeshire Youth Jazz Summer School runs from 26 to 29 August and will give participants the chance to study jazz and improvised music in depth over four days in Cambridge.

All abilities and experience are catered for, and if you would like to know more, or want to sign up, email You can also get a taste of the summer school from this video, filmed at last year’s event:
