Take your music making to the next level!

The County Ensembles represent the pinnacle of our ensemble structure, and are for advanced instrumental musicians who have attained the equivalent of Grade 6 on their first instrument. They are run in partnership with our professional musicians and conductors including players from Britten Sinfonia, Philharmonia Orchestra and the Corps of Army Music.

Musicians can join one of our specialist advanced chamber ensembles and the relevant larger orchestras.

Chamber ensembles meet for intensive weekend sessions spread across the year offering technical development through specialist coaching time. Students are encouraged to prepare the repertoire at home and with their teacher before attending.

For the orchestras there are two or three day courses for each ensemble once a term, leading to concert presentations with challenging repertoire. Public performances for all ensembles take place regularly. The standards achieved are consistently high and young musicians (and their parents) take pride in their progression through the Cambridgeshire Music Ensembles.

Students who are working towards Grade 6 may be accepted into the orchestra on the recommendation of their teacher.

Membership of county ensembles is £70 per term although we encourage members to commit to the whole year of activity. Members are encouraged to participate in as many ensembles as they wish and should be aware that for some courses auditions may be required.

Trial Sessions: For interested musicians who would like to see if playing in the ensembles is the right step for them, we offer one trial session with any of the ensembles at no charge. To book this, please use the joining form attached and indicate on it that you wish to take up the trial option. Full payment will be required once you decide to join us.

In addition there are often specialist ensembles and projects which players may join to develop their skills further.

Projects have also enabled young conductors and soloists to have specific training and performance opportunities.
