Let your musicianship take off!

The County Ensembles represent the pinnacle of our ensemble structure, and are for advanced instrumental musicians who have attained the equivalent of Grade 5 on their first instrument. They are run in partnership with our professional musicians and conductors including players from Britten Sinfonia, Philharmonia Orchestra and the Corps of Army Music.

There are 2 or 3 day courses for each of the ensembles once a term, leading to concert presentations with challenging repertoire. Public performances for all ensembles take place at the end of most terms. The standards achieved are consistently high and young musicians (and their parents) take pride in their progression through Cambridgeshire Music Ensembles.

Musicians join one of our specialist advanced sectional ensembles and the relevant larger orchestras.

Sectional ensembles are on Wednesday evenings and tackle some of the upcoming repertoire for the orchestras and playing of chamber music, offering more development through regular specialist coaching time and increased performance opportunity. Rehearsals are 6:30pm to 8:30pm twice a term at Cambridgeshire Music in Huntingdon

The sectional chamber ensembles are:
Cambridgeshire Youth String Ensemble (CYSE)
Cambridgeshire Youth Woodwind Ensemble (CYWE)
Cambridgeshire Youth Brass Ensemble (CYBE)
Cambridgeshire Youth Percussion Ensemble (CYPE)
Cambridgeshire Youth Harp Ensemble (CYHE)

Our larger orchestras are:
Cambridgeshire County Youth Orchestra (CCYO)
Cambridgeshire Youth Wind Orchestra (CYWO)

In addition there are often specialist ensembles and projects which players may join to develop their skills further. In 2017 additional opportunities have included projects to help develop:
Cambridgeshire Early Music Ensemble (CEME)
Cambridgeshire World Music Ensemble (CWME)
Cambridgeshire County Big Band (CCBB)

Projects have also enabled young conductors and soloists to have specific training and performance opportunities.

Membership of county ensembles is on an annual basis only and costs £250. Members are encouraged to participate in as many ensembles as they wish and need to be aware that for some courses auditions may be needed.

Trial Sessions: For interested musicians who would like to see if playing in the ensembles is the right step for them, we offer up to two trial sessions with any of the ensembles at no charge. To book these, use the joining form attached and indicated on it that you wish to take up the trial option.
