CAMBRIDGE MUSIC CENTRE

Preparation for County Ensembles - for intermediate level players

The Cambridge Music Centre offers a combination of ensemble and orchestral experience on a weekly basis in term time for those playing their orchestral instruments at Grade 2 standard and above. The Centre nurtures specialist woodwind, string, brass and percussion ensembles as well as a full orchestra.

Throughout the term, our team work with students to explore a variety of repertoire following a theme, and embark on a collaborative creative project as well to allow students to explore composition and improvisation within a group context. The last session of each term culminates in a lively and enjoyable performance for parents and friends.

Themes & Repertoire

Autumn term - Myths and Legends
Dive into the realms of mystery with us as we explore music inspired by tales of old, from Norse mythology in Wagner’s ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ to ‘A Bao A Qu’ by Mason Bates (an imaginary being from the mind of Jorge Luis Borges), and Cambridge’s local legend: Gog Magog.
Spring term - Curtain Up!
Show stoppers from the musical stage including highlights from Wicked, Hairspray, La La Land and West Side Story.
Summer term - Let's Face the Music and Dance
A selection of dances chosen to get you in the mood for moving. This collection varies from the traditional Hungarian Dances by Brahms, to ballroom scenes of a Romantic waltz, to modern dancefloor hits.
