FAMILY MUSIC

Bringing families together with music

Making music together is one of the most fun things a family can do! Our events for families bring parents, carers and children together in musical settings enabling them to experience music they have not heard before, or develop musical skills they didn’t realise they possessed.

Family music events can run as a 5 week after-school club, drop-in events, or as part of a bigger event/festival. Whatever the setting, the emphasis is on positive, inclusive and fun events that appeal to diverse audiences. Projects can help to engage parents in their children’s learning, improve confidence and ability to work together as a family, and inspire lifelong interest in music for both parents and children.

Our sessions are devised for the particular setting and event, tailored to levels of interest and experience and all about "having a go" more than "getting it right"! We use a variety of accessible instruments including drums from a round the world, samba, folk music and dance, guitar and even junk percussion.

Activities we run with schools can be structured with families, cross year collapsed days, peer mentoring and contribution opportunities to schemes such as Arts Award.

Cost

£30 per family for a one-day workshop or 5 week after-school club. A minimum of 10 families are required to run the activity. In some cases we are able to subsidise the cost of sessions through our work with MusicNet East.

Alternatively schools may choose to book the course themselves at £300 and set up their own charging arrangements to families.
